As an internal observability champion, I helped to promote observability principles and concepts to our teams, and was responsible for organizing an evaluation of our observability tooling. In this talk, I will talk about how I planned, strategized, and organized our observability tooling evaluation—and I'll share how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted that evaluation. I'll cover the engineering outcomes we were aiming for given Amperity's engineering structure and the areas of focus that ultimately helped set us up for success.

Michael is a Platform Engineer at Honeycomb.io. Has worked with various public and private cloud providers over for the past 8 years. Originally was deeply rooted in system administration but has since gained fondness for infrastructure as code and developer tooling. He has been using Kubernetes + Terraform software pairing since 2017. In his spare time he is an avid PC gamer, enjoys cooking and tinkers with mixed reality.
